The Merseyside club Vows Not to Change Offensive Approach Despite Poor Run of Form, Declares Arne Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a solution. The manager acknowledged that six unsuccessful results in seven outings was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Growing Expectations Throughout Challenging Phase
Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of nearly ÂŁ450 million.
"We share common perspectives," commented the manager, whose team next week face Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to the Citizens in the Premier League.
Squad Quality Remains Unquestioned
Liverpool's manager thinks his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and all ready for the fixture list". He said that the transfer window acquisitions in talents including the German international and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the years to come".
Gelling Difficulties
When questioned about why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm offering alibis. I can list multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."
- No matter if I could come up with multiple factors
- When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
- In truth six losses from seven matches
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (21) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The first-place team, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the champions have been too open and maintains there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a more pragmatic style after ten matches without a clean sheet.
"I don't see us conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to modify our philosophy completely but we need to do better in preventing goals," he declared.
Specific Instances
"Versus the Red Devils, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Not at all. We do give away a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't think that our issue is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we don't score the openings we produce."
