Severe Precipitation Worsen Circumstances for Evacuated Palestinians in Gaza, Agencies Alert

Nearly 55,000 households have reportedly been impacted by the storms, with their possessions and dwellings damaged.

Persistent storms over the last seven days have worsened the already dire living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted civilians in the region, according to relief organizations.

"Awful" Night Creates Serious Dangers

A official characterized the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"Last night was exceptionally difficult for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," said the official.

Officials express grave concern that children living in tents in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and other ailments.

Medical officials have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have lost their lives in building collapses triggered by the harsh conditions.

Other reports indicate a greater fatality count. Authorities stated that several homes had fully given way and many others had sustained partial collapse.

Relief Efforts Deemed Insufficient

"Officials are working relentlessly to bring in that aid and to allocate it, but the magnitude of the requirements is so immense that we continue to see thousands of individuals and children who are really struggling nightly," stated one spokesperson.

Ongoing Issues and Agreement Plans
