President Endorses Measure to Make Public Further Epstein Documents Following Period of Pushback
Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had endorsed the legislation decisively passed by American lawmakers that mandates the Department of Justice to release more documents related to the convicted sex offender, the deceased pedophile.
This action comes after months of opposition from the leader and his supporters in the House and Senate that fractured his political supporters and generated conflicts with various established backers.
The president had fought against making public the related records, describing the matter a "false narrative" and condemning those who attempted to publish the records accessible, despite vowing their disclosure on the election circuit.
But he altered his position in the last week after it was evident the legislative chamber would pass the measure. Trump stated: "There are no secrets".
It's not clear what the agency will make public in as a result of the bill – the measure specifies a host of potential items that need to be disclosed, but includes exemptions for some materials.
Donald Trump Signs Measure to Require Publication of Further Epstein Documents
The measure requires the chief law enforcement officer to make public Epstein-connected records open for review "in an easily accessible digital format", encompassing all investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, his colleague his accomplice, aircraft records and travel records, persons cited or listed in association with his crimes, organizations that were connected with his trafficking or money operations, protection agreements and further court deals, official correspondence about charging decisions, documentation of his detention and demise, and details about any file deletions.
The justice department will have one month to turn over the records. The legislation provides for certain exemptions, such as redactions of confidential victim data or individual documents, any descriptions of minor exploitation, releases that would endanger ongoing inquiries or court proceedings and representations of demise or abuse.
