Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only seven months following instigating disrespectful taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club out of the drop zone.
Past Conflict Between Bamford & Wilder
Both men had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Moving Forward
All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
