Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
