Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
